How to add AI commentary to a CS2 stream
Install Colorcast, turn on the Counter-Strike 2 adapter, and drop one config file into the game's cfg folder. From then on an AI commentator reacts out loud to your kills, deaths and rounds, usually about a second after they happen.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11 and Counter-Strike 2.
- Colorcast (free to install).
- OBS Studio if you want captions on stream. It's optional.
1. Pick a commentator and where it plays
Open Colorcast. On Audio, choose the output the voice should play on. If OBS already captures your desktop audio, your normal speakers or headset will do. On Session, choose a commentator and the Counter-Strike preset. Press Test to hear a line.
2. Turn on the CS2 adapter
- Open Triggers and turn on Counter-Strike 2 (Game State Integration) in the Game adapters card.
- Click Copy CS2 config.
- Save it as
gamestate_integration_colorcast.cfginSteam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\game\csgo\cfg\. - Restart CS2 and start a match. The card switches to live when the first update arrives.
That file tells the game to send your match state to Colorcast on your own PC. Nothing is installed into the game. For the background, see what Game State Integration is.
3. What the commentator reacts to
- Your kills, with headshots and the weapon called out.
- Your deaths.
- Each round won or lost, with the score.
- The match result.
Everything else is yours to call. Press a hotkey or Stream Deck key, or say it into your mic: "clutch", "he's one HP", "that was lag". The commentator writes a new line for each one.
4. Put it on stream
- In OBS, add a Browser source with the URL
http://127.0.0.1:3847/overlay. It shows a caption for each line and the AI badge. - Optional: on Colorcast's Audio page, connect OBS ducking so game audio drops while the commentator speaks.
More detail is on the OBS overlay page.
If nothing happens
- The card stays on "waiting for game": check the file name and folder, then restart CS2. The config is only read at launch.
- The card is live but there's no voice: check the output device on the Audio page and press Test.
- Backup route: launch CS2 with
-condebugand use the console-log adapter. It only sees the kill feed.
